How I emailed 12,734 and made $5.54 (this is not a typo)

email-money

Internet Marketing has a lot of areas and you have to find area’s you are good at.  One area I am not good at is email marketing, well on my older sites, on my new ones I have got better.

So I emailed 12,734 yesterday as an affiliate and I mad $5.54 from that list.

What went wrong? Why did I make soo little…..These are people who have come to my website and opted in to my email list.

I did not listen to my friend Miguel who is good at this stuff….LOL and made all the errors he told me about

First let me share the email with you (maybe you can tell me, since I am learning this stuff)

The capital is edited from my companies name and site.  If you know me, I am outside the IM niche besides this blog post.

Lets look at what I did wrong here.

Error #1 – No Relationship.

This email list has been collected over the last 3-4 years and I dont ever email them, I dont send them any value and I dont have a relationship

Error #2 – No Auto Sequence

Once they have signed up, I sent them 6 days of content, then nothing.  I need to expand and keep a on going relationship.  Someone who signed up 2 years ago has not heard from me since that time

Error #3 – No Edu-Selling

In the email I said, its Christmas, here are ways to save money.   I did not share the benefits with the customer and educate them before trying to tell them.  I just said, hey look at this, not saying why they should or whats in it for them.

Error #4 – Lefts Affiliate Link

I did not even switch the CJ affiliate link to a tiny URL or pretty link.   Soo sad, I just left it and it looks like a viru s link.

I am sure there is a lot more errors I made, if you got experience in email marketing and want to share your feedback, please do.

So I know how to build a email list, but the value not in having a list, it is what you do with the list.

Cheers,

Mukul

Thanks for sharing, at least you are actually doing something…that’s the first step to success.

Thats a good way to look at it :)

I email some of my lists regularly, some even once or twice per week.  However, I find that the lists are relatively non-responsive with an average of only about 10% opens.  Sometimes it’s been a bit higher to 15%.  My internet coach from this year gave us an insider to what she was getting and she was doing about an average of 10% too but she got much more business.  One reason might be that she’s got 25 K on her list so it might be a numbers thing.

For lists like the IM Crunch list that is my open rate as well 15% or soo, sometimes 20%+.   I think it is #s, but it is also relationship and quality.  I did not have the relationship part with this list.

Hi Mukul, thanks for your inside view.

The number 1 factor in an open rate would be determined by the “subject line”. I’m not sure what you used in this case.

Aside from the aspects you’ve already mentioned, I’d also consider grammar as a possible deterrent from taking action. There are small typos which make the email look “spammy” in my opinion.

Sending you best wishes for the holiday season!

    To your success,

    J
